Meet the Makers

Michele

Michele wants to live in a world where the couches are all overstuffed, the bookshelves are never empty and the mugs of coffee are always steaming and bottomless.

As a skilled soapmaker with over 12 years of experience, her work has been featured in NJ Monthly Magazine, Gift Shop Magazine and Conscious Connection Magazine. She started her career as a Textile Designer, then moved into Retail Management before rediscovering the art of soapmaking that was taught to her by her Great-Grandmother when she was a small child.

When she's not in the studio making the happiest soap on the planet, you can find her in the kitchen mastering the art of toaster oven cooking, binge watching episodes of Midsomer Murders, listening to SKA music and escaping reality on a regular basis by burying her nose is a good book.

The first soap that she ever made, Green Tea Zen, is still a top selling customer favorite eight years and counting!

THE PRODUCT

MAKE YOUR SKIN HAPPY!

Can your skin experience happiness? Absolutely!  Funky Chunks soaps are loaded with ingredients to make your skin happy.
Pure Olive Oil, Nourishing Coconut Oil and Vitamin Rich Palm Oil (sustainably sourced of course) and loads of naturally occurring glycerin (that’s the really good stuff!

I think we can hear your skin singing in happiness from here!
Our soaps are made in small batches, by our family (we like to call ourselves micro-saponifiers) using a recipe that has been handed down for generations in our family.

THE HISTORY

BORN IN 2008

We started the company out of a strong desire for quality soaps that weren’t like everything else on the market.
We were bored stiff with our choices when we went shopping. We knew if we felt this way; then there were other people who did too.
So we started making uniquely fragrant soaps in our small apartment kitchen in Spring Lake, NJ and selling them locally.

The response and feedback was amazing!

Our little soap company began to grow and we were able to bring our soaps to fans nationwide. (they are fiercely loyal and we affectionately call them Funky Junkies!)

In 2017 Funky Chunks moved to its current location; a 1,200 square foot production facility in Salem, OH
